01.What is Electrostatic Powder Coating?
Electrostatic powder coating is a solvent-free surface coating method. The coating material is very fine powder paint particles that make up the top coat layer. Powder paint is applied in the paint booth by means of special spray guns. Electrostatically charged powder paint particles while passing through the gun adhere to the material to be painted in the cabinet and the coating process is realized.
02.What are the Advantages of Electrostatic Powder Coating?
Powder paint is a completely dry coating system. It consists of electrically charged ground resin, pigment and other raw material particles and is sprayed on the objects to be painted.
Advantages of Powder Coating:
– The polymerization of the powder paint ensures that the paint adheres to the material during the firing process. The resulting coating exhibits excellent resistance to abrasion, corrosion, chemical influences and impacts.
– Ease of Maintenance; Powder coating systems are very easy to maintain: During the color change, the paint booth and guns are cleaned and wiped with compressed air.
– Powder coating, which is an environmentally friendly process, does not contain volatile petroleum origin (solvents). This not only protects the environment, but also protects worker health.
– Excess paint is reused. Usually does not require pre-painting.
– A Profitable Investment; When all these parameters are evaluated, powder coating is more advantageous than traditional painting systems.
03.Electrostatic Powder Coating Usage Areas
The main usage areas of electrostatic powder paint are; Aluminum industry, Steel door industry, Machinery industry, Lighting industry, White goods industry, Automotive sub-industry, Metal furniture industry, Steel shelf industry, Table, chair, door handle, grille and stand manufacturing, Park garden furniture and fence manufacturing, Manufacture of children's playgrounds, Manufacturing of agricultural tools and equipment, Manufacturing of electrical panels, Bicycle manufacturing, Panel radiator manufacturing, Manufacture of kitchen tools and utensils (pans, pots, etc.), Glass and wood industry
04.Paint Application
It is carried out by means of an electrostatic gun. For this purpose, there are two types of guns, corona and tribo. In Corona type gun, while the powder leaves the gun, it is electrostatically negatively charged thanks to a high voltage electrode located at the gun tip. Since the part to be painted is grounded, the electrostatically charged paint easily adheres to the part. However, sometimes the Faraday effect can occur on very recessed and protruding parts and the entry of dust into the pits can be problematic. In these cases, tribo type guns are used. In this type of gun, the paint is loaded with a positive charge only by friction, without applying high voltage.
05.Baking
The powder paint applied part is put into the ovens. At this stage, the piece is put into the ovens, where mPowder paint is applied to the time and temperature given in the paint's properties. At this stage, the part is exposed to the time and temperature given in the properties of the paint. At this temperature, the paint first melts and cures after creating a flat surface. At the end of this period, the painting process is completed after the piece is taken out of the oven. Powder Coating products generally cure at 200 degrees in 10 minutes. However, the 10-minute period mentioned here is started after the piece reaches 200 degrees. At this temperature, the paint first melts and cures after creating a flat surface.
